We are excited to introduce Bolstra’s first Orr Fellow! Rebecca Garcia joins the customer success team filling the role of Customer Success Manager. We took some time to get to know Rebecca with a little Q&A:
Where did you go to school and what did you major in?
Indiana University-Bloomington, Kelley School of Business, Marketing & International Business (minor in Portuguese)
What will you be doing for Bolstra?
I am Bolstra’s first and only Orr Fellow so for the next two years I’ll be rotating to finish with 4-5 positions (those are TBD because of how quickly the startup world moves). My current position is Customer Success Manager (MANAGER AT 22? Momma I made it!) and I will be helping our customers configure and use our software for their specific needs! I work for the beautiful rockstar, Tim Conder, Adam Young and Kate Elliott.
What was the last book you read?
Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance. An excellent view into what many of our families in the Midwest are comprised of–and the intricacies of a segment of the classic United States persona that is constantly forgotten and ignored.
Favorite movie or genre?
Brick by Rian Johnson, modern-day film noir with a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It has the crazy high school dialogue everyone wishes they could talk with but a story that you realize is so much deeper every time you watch it. Never gets old.
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I might make some enemies but…broccoli? I’ll never get over the fact that I’m eating little trees, and they taste so good with almost anything on top. And fiber!? Am I right?
Favorite sports team?
Currently learning how to sports thanks to my wonderful boyfriend.. I’ll cop out and say any futbol team from Spain?
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
Since I started working, I like naps, cooking and long bike rides down the Monon trail with my best friend and boyfriend, Jacob. When I have more time I love reading, museum hopping, going on adventures outside and playing with my doggies, Sugar and Enzo.
Cats or Dogs?
Is this even a question? Dogs. All. The. Way. I have two and they’re perfect and definitely both smarter than me.
Where was the last place you traveled?
Shanghai, Zurich, and the Grand Canyon (all in the span of less than 2 months).
If you could meet anyone, dead or alive who would it be and why?
Freida Kahlo or Tupac. I’m a powerful Mexican woman and an obvious thug so I think that’s all I need to say about that.
Coffee or Tea?
Both! Seriously! I started drinking coffee (decaf) at the age of 8 and I adore finding new loose leaf tea stores to decaffeinate in the morning or relax at night. I’m obsessed with Yogi’s Kava Stress Relief tea, my new french press I bought for work, and Pu-er black tea.
What is your must have piece of technology?
My new Apple Watch. I feel safer when I drive and it’s waterproof!! But my greatest relief is when I get to turn them all off for vacation or when I’m in a foreign country.
What are you most looking forward to in your Orr Fellow experience?
I am looking forward to leave an impact on the youth community in Indianapolis–mainly in IPS school system. I want to be the person that tells students that they’re worth something and can be the instigators of change they want to see but know no one will do for them. Thank you Mark Hill and Launchpad for the opportunity.
What is one fun fact you would like to share about yourself?
At 22, believe it or not, I’m actually becoming funnier and it’s a really proud accomplishment of mine. I spent my whole life extremely un-funny (ask any of my friends) and it’s a skill I’ve always admired and been attracted to in people.
Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?
As long as my team is here, I’ll be right here at Bolstra. I couldn’t imagine a better place to work. You won’t see me in the middle of a corporate monster. It’s just not the place I’d fit in but I know its amazing for a lot of my friends!
